Tribute: Vernon Jackson Adkisson was born in Gilcrest to Woodrow and
Mabel (Stark) Adkisson. He grew up and graduated high school in
Milliken. He attended Northeastern Junior College in Sterling for a year

before entering the Navy. He served for four years, two in the states
and two in Hawaii and Japan. After he was discharged, he spent four
years in San Francisco working for the U.S. Steel Corp. He also attended

San Francisco State for two years before moving to Denver.

In Denver, Mr. Adkisson worked for Gate City Steel and Reynolds Aluminum

until he accepted the position of general manager for Erickson Metals of

Colorado in 1984. He remained in that position until his retirement in
October 2006.

Mr. Adkisson served on the Re-5J School Board, was a member of the
Veterans of Foreign Wars and was very active in the American Legion
baseball program. He enjoyed golf, water skiing and playing softball,
baseball and football and liked to coach those sports. He also liked to
hunt, fish and take care of his yard.

Mr. Adkisson died Wednesday at his home in Johnstown.

Survivors: His wife, Bobbi Adkisson of Johnstown; a son, Randy J.
Adkisson and wife Dana and a daughter, Terri Wailes, all of Johnstown;
three grandchildren, Madison Wailes and Brody and RyleeAnn Adkisson, all

of Johnstown.

Also surviving are two brothers, Ronald Adkisson and wife Bonnie of
Michigan and Richard Adkisson of California.

Preceded in death by: His parents and two brothers.

Services: 11a.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church in Johnstown.

Inurnment: Private family services at Johnstown Cemetery.
