“Ned was a Tactical Coordinator / Navigator aboard a designated combat flight enroute to Vietnam. The plane, at max gross takeoff weight, lost power
on all 4 engines moments after liftoff, thus had no hydraulics or electrical systems and was ditched into Subic Bay, The Phillippines on December 5th 1971. All crew members survived
except for Ned. The pilot, Mike Montgomery was later awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for a near perfect ditching which saved the lives of 11 other crew members.”
Bill Castro VP-6 Commanding Officer, 1971-1972
