PATROL SQUADRON SIX

VP-6

“The World Famous Blue Sharks” (1943-1993) PATRON SIX

In remembrance of Ensign Edward P. “Ned” Cooper who served in VP-6 from 1970 to 1971

“Ned was a Tactical Coordinator / Navigator aboard a designated combat flight enroute to Vietnam. The plane, at max gross takeoff weight, lost power on all 4 engines moments after liftoff, thus had no hydraulics or electrical systems and was ditched into Subic Bay, The Phillippines on December 5th 1971.

All crew members survived except for Ned. The pilot, Mike Montgomery was later awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for a near perfect ditching which saved the lives of 11 other crew members.”

Bill Castro VP-6 Commanding Officer, 1971-1972

"A Life Waiting to be Lived
A Love Waiting to be Shared
A Person Waiting to be Given
A Challenge Waiting to be Dared”
